ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 20,279 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after five additional cases were reported since last week's update.

The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the numbers on June 1, 2023.

According to ODH data, the new cases involved two people 30-39, two people 40-49, one person 60-69 and one person 80+.

There are nine known active cases in the county as of Thursday and 20,112 recovered cases, according to ODH.

A total of 54.17% of the county has started the vaccination process and 50.49% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 19,464 first boosters, 9,695 second boosters and 10,011 updated boosters administered.

Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.
