Community members invited to HATS for Kitten Shower

Community members were invited to the Humane Animal Treatment Society’s (HATS)

Community members were invited to the Humane Animal Treatment Society's (HATS) Kitten Shower to help prepare for the potential arrival of a large intake of kittens for this year.

The Kitten Shower occurred on Saturday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and was designed to educate guests about HATS’ efforts towards helping cats.

"The goal of the event is to provide a fun experience for community members and kids where they can learn about our kitten programs, donate kitten care supplies, and maybe even adopt one of the ten kittens we currently have available," HATS Executive Director Amanda Tillotson said. "Every year we intake approximately 200 kittens who will require foster homes and special care, and this event will help us gather much needed supplies to prepare for kitten season. The Kitten Shower is a great opportunity to talk directly to staff, fosters, and volunteers about all the ways you can get involved to help animals in our community."

From 10 a.m.-10:30 a.m., kids could come for storytime where ‘Kitten Lady's Big Book of Little kittens’ by Hannah Shaw was read.

During the rest of the event guests could drop-off donations, meet kittens, participate in crafts and face painting, enter to win gift baskets, learn about fostering, and enjoy drinks and snacks.

Some of the donations requested included cat and kitten canned food (any brand), Purina ONE Kitten Dry Food, Royal Canin Mother & Baby Cat Food, non-clumping cat litter, toys and cardboard scratchers, kitten milk replacer (KMR or PetLac), disposable exam gloves, paper towels and trash bags, and Dawn dish soap and bleach.

"For those who can't attend but still want to help, donations can also be sent directly from Amazon or Chewy by visiting hatsweb.org/wishlist," Tillotson said.
