Spinn.Design announced the CW.02, an upgraded version of its fabric camera protective wraps that has an extra barrier that protects gear against wet conditions.

The original Spinn adhesive fabric wraps launched in 2022 and the company followed up with a slightly improved version that came in more sizes the following year. The basic premise of the Spinn CW wraps is that they are a Velcro-free yet self-adhesive soft protective fabric layer that can be molded around camera gear to keep them safe while in transit and storage. In short, they are a smooth, heavy-duty microfiber shell.

“The entire surface of the wrapper works as closure – super strong and reliable,” Spinn.Design says. “Whatever you want to cover with the SPINN CW.02, its adhesive power withstands almost any load.”

That simple premise remains unchanged in the latest version, the CW.02, but now the wraps promise to protect wrapped gear from wet weather thanks to a waterproof mid-layer. Spinn.Design doesn’t provide an IP rating for the waterproofing, likely because that would depend heavily on how well the fabric is sealed around a piece of equipment. There isn’t any true “seal,” in that sense, so the level of protection is based entirely on how well openings in the fabric wrap are covered.

The fabric itself, though, appears to offer a complete barrier against water ingress. In a video demonstration, Spinn.Design folds the CW.02 into a cone and is able to fill it with water without any seeping through. As a result, the company says the new wrap will protect equipment from rain, splashes, and the ingress of moisture for basically any level outside of full immersion.

Spinn says that the inclusion of the waterproof barrier doesn’t take away from the soft and pliable nature of the CW.02 wrapper compared to previous iterations and instead markets this latest version as a straight upgrade with no downsides. The self-adhesive system still promises to be strong enough to hold a camera and lens despite being shaken, protecting them from dust, scratches, and impact damage. Plus, the interior fabric can be used similarly to how a standard microfiber cloth for cleaning.

The CW.02 is available to back on Kickstarter until September 11 starting at 15 euros (about $16). The company intends to ship starting in November.
